Bushes Bring Home Adopted Pup

Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, visited their local SPCA center in Texas this week to “thank them for their great work — and came home with a puppy,” Bush wrote on social media. A photo of the Bushes with their new family member, Freddy Bush, makes it easy to see why they couldn’t leave without the adorable little guy. “We already love him, and even our cats Bob and Bernadette are finding Freddy’s charm futile to resist,” he said. During their years in the White House, the Bushes owned two Scottish Terriers, Barney and Miss Beazley. In his retirement, the former president has often painted his dogs, who passed away in 2013 and 2014. In his post, Bush encouraged others to adopt, too. “If you could use a little extra joy in your life, consider adopting a pet from an animal shelter or rescue group,” he wrote on Facebook and Instagram. — Read it at Today

“World’s Saddest Polar Bear” Moved Temporarily

Following months of outrage over the conditions Pizza the polar bear was living in at a mall in China, the “world’s saddest polar bear” has been moved back to the ocean park where he was born. The move back to where his parents live comes after more than 1 million people signed a petition to have the bear moved. Authorities say the move is temporary while his enclosure at the mall is renovated. But animal advocates are hopeful that the move will become permanent. — Read it at Fox News

Cat Gets Stuck in Bathroom Drain

Kiba the cat found himself in a tight spot after sticking his head down a bathroom floor drain at his Australia home. “Kiba the cat had become well and truly stuck after some kind of investigation into the drain went wrong,” the Cessnock District Rescue Squad said in a Facebook post. “Our volunteers managed to remove the drainage socket from the tiles to make it easier and more comfortable, and then set about removing the plastic from Kiba’s head.” The squad used a “finger kit,” which is generally used to remove rings from fingers or fingers from drains, to free Kiba. — Read it at People Pets

Dogs’ Blood Donations Save K9

Boise, Idaho, police dog Jardo is home recovering after being shot by a suspect on Friday. He survived the injury thanks in part to two fellow dogs. Myles, a 6-year-old Golden Retriever who belongs to a vet tech at WestVet Emergency Center, and a Pit Bull named Cricket donated almost a liter of blood to help Jardo stabilize after he lost a lot of blood from the gunshot wound to his chest. Jardo got to go home just one day after major surgery. Two police officers were also injured in the incident. One of the officers remains in critical condition, and another officer is home recovering. — Read it from Idaho’s KTVB

Koala Visits Accountant’s Office

Maybe he needed a little help with his taxes? In a viral video, the koala walks confidently up to the door of an Australian accountant’s office, then right under a desk inside the office, like he knows exactly where he’s going. “S/he seemed to be on a bit of a mission, and wasn't heading towards any of the nearby trees, so I escorted the fuzzy traveller across the road and down the street,” Harriet Shing, a member of parliament, told ABC Online. She was trying to get him out of the street at the time. “Eventually the little champion decided to go into Fawcett and Pickersgill Accountants, where the vet was called for an office visit.” — Watch it at ABC News
