Puppy Pulled From Inside Wall
After their blind and deaf puppy had been missing for several days, a family in the Bronx finally heard a clue: whimpering coming from inside the walls of their home. They called the New York Fire Department for help in getting him out safely. Five firefighters responded and determined that the puppy had fallen through a hole in the wall of a bathroom in the home that was under renovation. Mustafa apparently then fell seven feet and got stuck between sheet rock and a pipe. They were able to remove a piece of the floor and pull him out, and reunite him with his relieved family on Friday. Amazingly, Mustafa didn’t suffer any injuries. “The little boy and his mom were incredibly grateful. New research finds cats have microstructures that look like tiny hooks on their tongues to allow them to pull snags and tangles out of their coats. It also has a tackiness that helps cats pick up their food, but the most important use of the tongue is as a grooming tool, the researchers said. “When the cat's tongue hits a snag, it pulls on the hooks, which rotate to penetrate the snag even further,” said Alexis Noel, a doctoral candidate in mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech. “Like a heat-seeking missile for snags, the hook's mobility allows the cat to better tease tangles apart.” The researchers are scheduled to present their findings at the 69th Annual Meeting of the American Physical Society's Division of Fluid Dynamics this week. — Read it at UPIReal Voice Behind Singing Snake Discovered
For years, local folklore in the Amazon has held that the bushmaster, a deadly viper, can sing. But scientists now say that the venomous snake isn’t the one doing the singing. The calls attributed to the snake really belong to two types of tree frog, they said. The frog species measure about 2 and 3 inches long, and their calls often come from tree holes. The scientists say the tale of the singing viper was widespread, but it’s unclear how so many people came to believe the snake could hold a tune. Lady Gaga Introduces New Pup
Lady Gaga has a new member of the pack. On Monday night, the singer shared a sweet photo on Instagram where she’s introducing the adorable puppy to her two older French Bulldogs, Koji and Miss Asia. “I'm proud to announce we added a new member to the #JOANNE family,” she wrote. “I haven't named him yet but I call him both cowpig and moopig in the meantime!” Joanne is the title of album Lady Gaga released last month. She lost a foot and part of her tail after being saved from the subway tracks in New York City last month, but Mathilda has gained a new home. Mathilda is “settling in nicely” after being adopted by the family who spotted her on the tracks near 42nd Street in New York, said Heather Denbow. Train traffic was delayed for more than an hour while the police worked to save the kitty.
