Delighted Dogs Splash at Park

Everybody in! All summer, they watched as the kids went off to splash around at the water park. Finally, the dogs had their day at a Lakeview Park in Idaho. The pups — including many very happy Retrievers —were allowed to run and play in the spray ground on the park’s last day of the summer season, and they were caught on a video that’s guaranteed to make you smile. Ticket sales raised money for a new dog park in the area. Many local pools and water parks around the country let furry friends have some fun just before they close for the summer. — Watch it at Today

Study: Dogs Understand What You Say and How You Say It

A new study finds that different parts of a dog’s brain react to the meaning of the words you say, and to the tone you use to say them. The Hungarian researchers used MRIs to record the dogs’ brain activity. A trainer spoke common words of praise to the dogs, including “good boy,” “super” and “well done,” and then neutral words like “however” and “nevertheless.” The words were spoken in both positive and neutral tones. The positive words spoken in a positive tone prompted strong activity in the brain’s reward centers, while all the other conditions resulted in a lot less response in the reward centers. The results of the experiments were published in the journal Science. — Read it at The New York Times

Louisiana Pets Adopted, and Reunited

As the people of Baton Rouge attempt to get back on their feet after the devastating flooding that cost so many residents their homes, volunteers are doing their best to care for thousands of displaced animals. Many residents had to leave their homes so quickly that their animals were left behind. There have been tearful reunions of pet owners who found their furry loved ones, while other animals who were given up by owners who lost everything have already been transported to other states and found loving new forever homes. — Read it at CNN

Cat Lost in Cross-Country Move

The Skelly family is relieved and grateful after their lost cat was found at a Michigan rescue center on Friday. Graham Skelly and his son Simon, 10, were traveling from Seattle to their new home in Virginia on Aug. 21, when they stopped at the center in New Buffalo. They were walking their 14-year-old cat, Milkie, on a leash, when the tabby got scared by a dog and took off into the woods. The father and son searched for Milkie for two hours before they had to leave, but thankfully, an employee of the center found and safely trapped the cat five days later. Graham Skelly returned to Michigan from Virginia to pick up Milkie on Sunday, and the senior cat could be heard meowing when a reporter interviewed him by phone. — Read it from the AP via Yahoo

Sea Lion Pup Explores With Mom

A sweet video shows a 2-month-old sea lion pup named Catalina making her debut in her outdoor exhibit at Washington’s National Zoo. The pup snuggles with her mom, Calli, and splashes in the water on the zoo’s American Trail. Calli also took the time to introduce her little one to the other members of the colony, including her dad, Jetty, and two females, Sidney and Summer. Happy splashing, Catalina! — Watch it from the National Zoo via Facebook
