Stray Kitten Steals the Spotlight
While WXYZ Channel 7 reporter Nima Shaffe was doing a live report in a Michigan parking lot on Monday morning, someone else stole the show — an adorable stray kitten. “He tried to take over my time and he’s been hanging out underneath our truck here and so we’ve taken him under our wing,” said Shaffe, before realizing the kitten was actually a female. The kitten darted around Shaffe’s legs, but then allowed him to pick her up and appear in his report. Dubbed Lucky Seven for Shaffe’s station, the 6-week-old kitten was taken in by the Humane Society of Huron Valley. Eric Pelno was in the right place at the right time for a family of ducklings. A duck nest that was precariously sitting atop a stone barricade at one of the Tampa Bay theme park’s rides collapsed, and about 15 ducklings began falling. Pelno’s partner, Channing Deren, caught part of the incident on video as Pelno stood under the barricade and caught several of the ducklings as they plummeted to the ground. The Busch Gardens staff rushed to help, and despite one duckling with a broken leg, all of the ducklings were safe and returned to their mom. — Watch it at FacebookPuppy With Special Needs Gets a Second Chance
The Los Angeles based Road Dogs & Rescue stepped in to help Herbie, a 9-week-old French Bulldog who was born with hydrocephalus, a condition that causes a fluid buildup inside the skull. Because of that, he was left unable to stand or walk. Many times, puppies with the condition are put down, but someone intervened and got Herbie to the rescue group instead. “I wanted to give Herbie a chance because when you meet him, you can see he has a feisty spirit,” said the group’s Nikki Carter. He’s going through physical therapy, is on medication to reduce the fluid in his skull and will probably need brain surgery when he is 6 months old. Royals Fans Save Puppy
Michael Warner and his family decided it was too hot to watch the Kansas City Royals wrap up their series against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday afternoon, so they decided to leave the game at Missouri’s Kauffman Stadium early. But while they were making their way through the parking lot, they heard a whimpering noise, and realized it was coming from an 8-week-old puppy who was waiting in a hot car with the windows cracked open. Warner and his family called 911 and flagged down Royals staff members. Then, Warner was able to fit his hand through the window and pull the hot puppy out. He handed the puppy over to a Royals employee, who took care of him overnight before handing him over to the KC Pet Project. Warner said he was glad he decided to leave the game early because it went into extra innings, which would have meant more time in the hot car for the pup. A rare Sumatran rhino calf at the International Rhino Foundation doesn’t know how special she is. The month-old baby just wants to play in the mud, as a rhino calf does. She was born in May to mom Ratu, who also appears in the video of her delightful little one playing.
