Star’s Dog Gets Water Therapy
Support poured in on Instagram for singer Carrie Underwood’s beloved Rat Terrier, Ace, when she shared a video of him undergoing water therapy on Tuesday. The little guy, who walked down the aisle with Underwood at her wedding seven years ago, suffered a herniated disk before Christmas and is working his way back to health. “He was completely paralyzed in his back end for a couple of days and, with rest, soon got mobility back in his right side,” Underwood wrote in the caption. “His left side is slowly getting better but we have a long way to go.” Underwood can be heard cheering her pup on in the video, which has been viewed more than 1.2 million times. — Read it at People PetsStudy: Feral Cats Inhabit Nearly 100% of Australia
A new study finds that feral cats inhabit 99.8 percent of Australia’s landmass, including 80 percent of the land that makes up its islands. The overwhelming number of feral felines is considered a serious threat to the continent’s unique and vulnerable wildlife. European explorers first introduced cats to Australia in the 18th century, and with no large predators and plenty of prey for the cats, they’ve become widespread in the wild. One special cat who suffered from a rare spinal cord infection is racing around again thanks to the dedication of the man who found him as a stray, and veterinarians at UC Davis Veterinary Hospital. Jack Hill was living in Hawaii when he found Gray, and noticed he was having a hard time with his hind legs. Days later, he completely lost his ability to walk. Hill made a commitment to the cat and brought him to California for treatment. Five weeks after surgery to remove infected material and take pressure off his spinal cord, Gray was up and around again. “He’s a bullet, that’s the best way to describe him,” Hill said. “He chases my older cat around.” Hill and his family have now moved to California for Gray because they didn’t want to put him through the 6-month quarantine that would be required to bring him back to Hawaii. — Read it at CBS NewsImage: Kailey alerts to gas leak
Hero Dog Alerts Family to Gas Leak
A Shepherd mix who was nearly put down after spending a year on the adoption list at an Atlanta shelter repaid her new family by saving them from a potentially deadly gas leak. Last month, Kailey, 3, was adopted by Suzy Chandler, who fell in love with her after reading a Facebook post by her foster mom. Chandler says Kailey started acting strangely on Friday morning, suddenly barking and growling to get her family’s attention. Chandler brought Kailey outside, and the dog immediately pulled her to the side yard. “Right away I smelled overpowering gas and a loud whooshing sound,” Chandler said. There’s an adorable new attraction at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom in Florida. African elephant calf Stella was recently born to 28-year-old mom Donna, the park announced Wednesday. This is the third baby girl for Donna, who gave birth to Nadirah in 2005 and Luna in 2010. The mom and baby spent some time behind the scenes bonding and letting Stella get to know her family.
